Patton Kizzire, Emiliano Grillo, Brett Stegnaier and Smylie Kaufman – who? We have to keep up. These are the bright young things to come from the Web.com tour to the PGA tour. And they are winning tournaments already. They’re the same age as Jordan Spieth and are formidably talented. Last night’s win in the Shriners Invitational in Las Vegas by Kaufman was the result of one of the finest rounds of the year, a 61 which could have been a couple of shots better. -1 for the first 7 holes he then had 7 birdies in a row and an eagle at the 15th where he drove the green to 13 feet. He closed with another birdie on 18.
Kauffman and his brother Sunnie set up their own charity as teenagers called KidsvCancer to raise money to fund research to fight paediatric cancers. Aged 15 they had a marathon fundraising day playing 100 holes of golf at Shoal Creek Golf Club, Alabama. The owner offered to take both the brothers to a practice round at The Masters but Smylie couldn’t go due to exams. With this win he will compete in the 2016 Masters. It’s the start of a whole new era.
